Results May Vary is the fourth studio album by American nu metal band Limp Bizkit, released on September 23, 2003, under the Flip and Interscope Records labels. It is the band's only release under vocalist Fred Durst's sole management following the temporary departure of guitarist Wes Borland, who had left the band in 2001. Guitarist Mike Smith of Snot was recruited to replace Borland, although his period with the band was brief, and Durst, along with several guests, ended up handling most of the guitar work on the album.
The album stands out from Limp Bizkit's established sound up to this point; although it still features elements of hip-hop and nu metal, it also explores other musical styles such as alternative rock, acoustic, funk, jazz and emo. It also features less rapping and more introspective lyrics related to breakup, bullying, and self-pity. An alleged affair between Durst and Britney Spears (denied by Spears) during the collaboration sessions for his 2003 album, "In the Zone", and subsequent rejection by Spears, has also been cited as inspiration for parts of the album. To promote the album, music videos featuring A-list actors were created for “Eat You Alive” and a cover of “Behind Blue Eyes” by The Who; the first featuring Thora Birch and Bill Paxton, and the second starring Halle Berry.
Upon its release, “Results May Vary” reached number three on the US Billboard 200 chart, selling at least 325,000 copies in its first week of sales. Although the album eventually went platinum, initial and lifetime sales were still significantly lower than previous albums “Significant Other” (1999) and “Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water” (2000). “Results May Vary” has sold at least 1.3 million copies in the United States and received mostly negative reviews from critics. “Results May Vary” was Limp Bizkit's last studio album released before they took a three-year hiatus, from 2006 to 2009.
