Born on November 23, 1992 under the name of destiny Hope Cyrus, Miley Ray Cyrus is an American recording artist, singer, songwriter and actress. Nicknamed the “Chameleon of Pop”, she is hailed for her musical diversity and her constant artistic reinventions.

Youth and Ascension

Cyrus is called the “Teen Queen” of 2000s pop culture and considered one of the rare examples of a child star who managed to have a thriving career as an adult. His honors include 19 Teen Choice Awards, five Billboard Music Awards, four World Music Awards, three MTV Video Music Awards, a People's Choice Award, a GLAAD Media Award and eight Guinness World Records.

Initial Musical Journey

Cyrus is the eldest of two biological daughters among the country singer's six children Billy Ray Cyrus. She became a teen idol playing the eponymous character in the Disney Channel television series, Hannah Montana (2006-2011). As Hannah Montana, she had two number-one soundtracks and three top-five soundtracks on the Billboard 200, as well as the single “He Could Be the One” charting in the top ten on the Billboard Hot 100.

Solo Debut and Musical Evolution

Cyrus' initial solo career included the US number one teen pop rock albums Meet Miley Cyrus (2007) and Breakout (2008); these releases contained the US top ten singles “See You Again” and “7 Things”. The mini-album The Time of Our Lives (2009) reached number two in the United States; its lead single “Party in the USA” became one of the best-selling singles in the United States and was certified diamond by the RIAA.

Musical Exploration and Period of Transition

Cyrus also released the country pop ballad “The Climb,” which reached number four. Attempting to reinvent her image, she explored dance-pop in her third album, Can't Be Tamed (2010). The album received mixed reviews; however, its breakout track reached the top ten in the United States.

Artistic Evolution and Continuing Success

After a hiatus, Cyrus made a mature and provocative musical shift with Bangerz (2013), infused with R&B and hip-hop, which became her fifth number one album. Featuring the top five single “We Can't Stop” and her first US number one “Wrecking Ball”, it earned Cyrus her first Grammy nomination.

Exploration of Various Genres

She experimented with psychedelic music on her next album, the free album Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz (2015), embraced country pop on Younger Now (2017), which produced the top ten single in the US. Unis “Malibu”, and incorporated trap on the EP She Is Coming (2019). Cyrus explored rock on Plastic Hearts (2020), which topped the Billboard Top Rock Albums chart at number one. Her next album, Endless Summer Vacation (2023), was preceded by the lead single “Flowers,” which set several streaming records and was her second number one in the United States.

Film and Television Career

Outside of her music, Cyrus has starred in the films Bolt (2008), The Hannah Montana Movie (2009), The Last Song (2010), LOL (2012), and So Undercover (2013), and appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017). On television, she directed and produced the documentary Miley: The Movement (2013), was a coach on the music competition show The Voice (2016-2017), starred in the episode “Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too ” from the Netflix series Black Mirror (2019), hosts the annual NBC show Miley's New Year's Eve Party (2021–present), and starred in and produced the Disney+ concert documentary Endless Summer Vacation (Backyard Sessions) (2023). In 2014, she founded the nonprofit Happy Hippie Foundation, supported by the online video series Backyard Sessions (2012-2023).
