Notes on the piano
Musical notes have been an essential form of human expression for thousands of years. Guido d'Arezzo, a Benedictine monk, is credited with developing the current notation system with his "solmization", assigning a syllable to each note in a scale. The English system "do-re-mi-fa-sol-la-si" arises from this. Modern musical notation uses a five-line staff where the oval notes are placed. The pitch of a note is indicated by its vertical position on the staff, lower near the bottom and higher near the top. Extra lines are added for notes above or below the main staff. This is how notes are written and read these days. Notes are essential for being able to construct chords, read sheet music and understand musical harmony. You will learn to identify them on a musical staff and place them correctly on your piano.

Improve your rhythm on the piano
Master the basics of rhythm on the piano
Learn the basics of rhythm on the piano. Understand and work on the different rhythms essential to building rhythm. Indeed, any song you want to learn has a time signature, a tempo, chords, melodies, and a main rhythm with variations. It is fundamental for you to understand the main rhythmic values so that you can correctly play the songs you prefer. Imagine yourself playing a piece on the piano with other musicians. You play the right chords, the right melody but you are not in rhythm. You will easily understand that there is a problem. A song sounds and especially grooves if all the musicians play their parts in rhythm. It will be necessary to add to this an excellent feeling for rhythm and a lot of collective practice (the group) to make a piece groove. But the basis of all this is knowing how to play in rhythm, so I advise you not to neglect these lessons.

No need to always stay in the same position for each chord, it gives you more freedom to move your hands while playing. And guess what ? Piano Tips for Beginners with Our Free Online Piano Lessons
Online piano lessons: Learn the basics easy for beginners
This may seem obvious but start with the basics. Sometimes we want to jump right in and try to see how far we can go at first. But if you don't start with simple things, you can burn out from failure or hurt your hands because they don't have the stamina to handle more complex music.
Online piano lessons: How to play the piano?
The first thing you need to focus on when playing is posture. You're going to be doing a lot of repetitive movements. Good posture will help reduce strain on your hands and wrists when playing. Once you're seated correctly, focus on learning the basic techniques. In the beginning, you have to perfect your form. Once you've learned the correct form, focus on learning the primary rhythms and chords that make up the songs you want to practice.
Online Piano Lessons: Establish a Practice Schedule and Stick to It
It's through practice that you become perfect. If you don't invest the time necessary to learn a skill, you won't get anywhere with it. Malcolm Gladwell is famous for developing the 10,000 hour rule. This number is the average time it takes for someone to become an expert at something. If you want to become good, you have to put in the hours. Try to train the same amount of time each day and don't stop. The more you work, the more you will improve.
Online piano lessons: Try to find patterns
Music is made up of patterns. If you take the time to learn what these patterns and progressions are, then it will be much easier for you to learn by ear. Instead of working on learning each note, you can learn patterns and play the songs you want faster. Learning patterns also helps you understand how melodies are constructed. You might not want to stick to other people's music. This will help you find your own jams!
Online piano lessons: Apply the 80/20 principle
The 80/20 principle has become popular in business and skills development. It’s a simple principle when you look at it more closely. The idea is that 80% of your progress will come 20% of the work you do. But how can knowing this help you? Don't put all your effort into learning every piano skill you can.
Online piano lessons: How to learn the piano alone?
Focus only on the skills that, once mastered, will make the rest of your learning easier. You can also use this principle to play the music you want to focus on. Chances are that what you want to play uses only a subset of the existing game types. Focus on what you need to know to play the music you love.
Online piano lessons: Play slowly at first
You are not yet a master musician. It's okay if you don't play your music quickly. Before you start working on speed, make sure you are precise. Spend your time making sure you hit all the right notes. As you accumulate practice time, muscle memory will begin to kick in. When this happens, you should see your speed start to improve. In the meantime, take it easy and do things correctly.
Online piano lessons: Warm up before practicing
It may not seem like much, but your hands do a lot of work. Like the rest of your body, if you don't make sure they're ready to work, you risk injury. Before you start, stretch your hands and do some warm-up exercises. These stretches will promote blood circulation in your hands and eliminate any stiffness in them. You can also get in the right frame of mind by practicing techniques and simple piano chord sequences before starting your practice.
Online piano lessons: Practice the music you love
You didn't start learning a new instrument to have a bad time. You want to have fun. When you're practicing, make sure you're striving to progress with the songs you love. Pop is an easy genre of music to learn. This music has simple melodies that are not difficult to understand. They are also catchy and won't be too boring to keep playing. There are also several piano songs for beginners that are catchy and good for practicing. Learn what they are and use them to practice your technique.

How ? By focusing on learning Chords that you want to play, and not just the same boring notes and old-fashioned exercises.
After all, most of us don't try to play the piano to classical music. We want to play modern songs, the popular music that we hear and enjoy every day.
Online Piano Lessons: How long does it take to learn piano technique?
How long does it take to acquire solid piano technique? First, we need to define what it means using a specific qualification.
I define solid technique as being able to play all 12 major scales at 90 bpm, in sixteenth notes. Of course not, but you have SOLID technique. You have the strength, dexterity and finger coordination to play most songs.
Online piano lessons: How to easily learn piano technique?
How long does it take to get there? About 12 weeks, IF, you practice 10 minutes a day for 5 to 6 days a week. This doesn't mean you can skip 5 days and train for an hour on the last day.
Anyone who has played the piano knows that doesn't count. Just playing scales over and over again won't give you results as quickly.
I have four lessons on accelerated piano learning in my free course, Become a Piano Superman.
Online piano lessons: How to learn piano quickly by ear?
How long does it take to get good at playing piano by ear? When I say “good,” I don't mean that you're a master of playing by ear, but what I mean is that you can learn a pop song in about 10 minutes by ear.
To get to this level, there are essentially two deadlines to respect. If you can already play songs with your bare hands, it will take you about 4 months to become a master of playing the piano by ear.
If you are a complete beginner and have never played a song hand-in-hand, it will take you about 6 months because you will have to learn other skills first.
First, as with technique, you need to practice 10 minutes a day, 5 to 6 days a week. Second, and I learned this the hard way, you have to use systematic exercises, you can't improvise.
Online Piano Lessons: How long does it take to learn songs on the piano?
How long does it take to get good at learning songs on the piano? This is a tricky question to define because it depends on the difficulty of the songs you are trying to play.
There's no real quantitative method to define this, so I've found something that works well. You are “good” at playing songs if a random person who hears you play says “You are good at piano”.
How long does it take ? About 6 months. During this period, you will need to train approximately 20 minutes per day, 5 to 6 days per week.
You'll need very specific training for this too, breaking your songs into sections and really focusing on the sections that need work and will push you.
Don't spend half your practice sessions playing the easy parts you already know - that won't give you the results you want in 6 months.
Online piano lessons: The training plan to learn the piano step by step
If you took 6 months to learn the piano, spent 10 minutes a day on scales, 10 minutes a day on playing by ear exercises, and 20 minutes a day on songs, you would:
– Have a solid technique
– Be able to play by ear
– Being able to play songs that people would say, “Wow, you’re really good on the piano.”
Online piano lessons: A total of 40 minutes per day for 6 months. That's all it takes.
You don't have 40 minutes a day? Let's say you only have 20 minutes. Maybe you spend 3 months focusing only on technique and playing by ear.
Another three months you can concentrate on performing songs. Then you'll go through both again and in a year or so you'll be good at all three.
Remember, it's all in the details, using the right techniques, exercises and strategies to accelerate your training.

Piano lessons: Is it difficult to learn piano?
It is not difficult to learn piano. Forget traditional piano lessons. Most “best” piano lessons for beginners or “best” piano teachers don’t always know how to tune into what you want to learn, which makes learning difficult. Everyone has a song they want to learn to play, and you shouldn't have to stuff yourself with dozens of Bach and Mozart songs just to achieve that goal.
Learn to play the songs you want to play quickly. Many traditional teachers base their curriculum on an outdated learning system.
They expect you to stay with them for years, even if you practice their lessons daily.
Basic piano lessons like these are too expensive, outdated, and don't give you enough time to learn theory and practice piano.

Online piano lessons: Easy songs for all levels
When you hear a song for the first time and learn to play it on your own, it can be magical.
You start asking yourself questions like “How did they do that?” and “What are these agreements?”.
Songs can often sound more complicated than they are. When you play pop you're surprised to discover that once you master a few basics, most songs come easily.
If you can master six chords in each key, you can play almost any pop song. It sounds crazy, but it's true.
Of course, playing a song and mastering it are two different things.
A professionally trained pianist will sound better than a beginner, even if they play the same easy song.
It's a matter of training, practice and experience. The only way for you to reach this level is to start playing!
Online piano lessons: Master some basic techniques
When you start playing piano alone, easy piano songs will be those that don't move too much on the notes and have a fairly simple rhythm.
Of course, playing the piano involves using both hands at the same time.
However, if you've never played before, or haven't for a long time, it's best to start with songs that you can play with one hand.
When learning a song, regardless of the level, it is always best to learn each hand separately before you start playing the song with your hands together.
Also remember that you need to use the most logical finger on each note, which may take a bit of experimentation and finding what works best for you.
Once you find the best finger for each note to move easily, be careful to use the
Online Piano Lessons: Should I Read Music or Play by Ear?
Do I need to know how to read a score or can I practice the piano by ear without music theory?
Ultimately, the method to learn piano is up to you. The best thing to do is to learn to play the piano both ways.
You should start by reading music theory with sheet music reading, then complement this by learning music by ear.
Pianists who approach learning the instrument this way will have much more success and less difficulty becoming excellent at both areas.
A really good piano lesson like this will teach you all the principles you need to know to become a great pianist.
Online piano lessons: How to play piano by ear?
What is the method for playing the piano without music theory? Learning mainly to play the piano by ear without music theory is more adventurous, it has certain advantages.
First of all, having a well-developed musical ear is important for your development as a musician.
Being able to hear harmonies and work rhythms without music theory is really helpful during practice, and especially when you're memorizing a piece to play it.
Online piano lessons: Tips for playing piano by ear without music theory
Here are some tips that will help you make better use of playing the piano by ear without music theory on the internet.
Online Piano Lessons: Uses High-Quality Recordings
If you are going to reproduce a song successfully, the quality of the recording must also be good. Try playing music from a CD from a streaming platform.
On Yooplay thanks to our teaching method, you will be able to isolate the instruments and listen in HD quality.
Also be sure to use high-quality speakers or headphones with a wide frequency response range so you can hear all the high notes as well as the sound quality of the low notes.
If you use cheap headphones, there is a good chance that you will lose a lot of the quality and even miss crucial notes that are in the song.
Online piano lessons: Learn music in segments
The biggest part of learning music by ear is not rushing the process. Our brains can only process a limited amount of information at a time, and it's no different with music.
Start by learning music in small segments of 5 to 10 seconds or less. Work on separate hands first, then put hands together.
What you'll discover when you do this is that you can assign certain notes on the piano to one hand that you otherwise would have put into both.
Once you've learned at least 30 seconds of music, take a break and come back to it the next day. It gives you a chance to internalize the music and make a fresh start with the rest of the song on a new day.
Here are some useful tips to help you memorize music faster.
Online piano lessons: Cross-reference what you hear with the score or chords
Even if you learn music without reading it, it's helpful to cross-reference the score. Even some basic note reading skills will allow you to do this effectively.
Look at the music and find the parts where you weren't sure about certain chords and melodies. Play these parts slowly to make sure you're on the right track.
For this to work, your arrangement must be in the same key and meter as the recording so there is no confusion.
This method works well with classical music, but with more popular tunes the arrangements can vary greatly.
If you're not comfortable reading notes, it may be best to use a simple chord chart.
Online piano lessons: Hum while playing your piano melody
Humming or singing while playing really helps with memorization. Besides that, it also helps to understand which notes should come next in the melody.
There were several times when I was humming a melody but the note I was playing didn't match my tone.
Doing this helped me realize that I was playing the wrong key and needed to make an adjustment.
I think you'll find that it really helps the more you play the piano. You can always use humming or singing as a way to solidify your playing.
Online piano lessons: Try not to look at your fingers when you play
Always looking at your fingers is one of the bad habits. The piano is a very visual instrument, but it can be difficult to feel comfortable playing without reading the music.
One strategy I've used is to never look down when playing. I find that when you look down, you become too dependent on what you see happening.
This can really cause problems if you make a mistake or miss a note. This can throw off your entire arrangement and make it difficult to recover during the song.
This is why pianists must also learn by feeling the distance they have to travel between notes.
You can start by learning a piece by looking at the keys in segments. Shortly after, try to reproduce this entire section with your eyes closed.
Online piano lessons: Choosing the right song to start playing the piano
Beyond the theory, the practical exercises, the first lessons, choosing a favorite song to start with can be a little difficult for child or adult beginners.
One of the keys to determining which song is best for beginners is to analyze your abilities at the moment.
The first goal in developing new knowledge is to find the song that suits you best. After that, you will be confident enough to move forward.
You have to take into account different aspects when you want to learn or play an instrument. This includes your rhythm, playing techniques, etc.
Besides that, you need to be very determined and motivated because things will become even more difficult if you lack one thing and that is interest.
Example of songs for beginner pianists
“Imagine” beginner piano – John Lennon
“Imagine” is a classic song for piano beginners, it's John Lennon's most enduring hit during his solo years, and people love learning it because it's simple and impressive.
The video breakdown gives you a simplified version of the song, which is great to start with.
You get the general feel of all the chords, as well as some of the essential licks that make the song so recognizable.
It also teaches you the melody, which is very satisfying because it's such a popular melody. The verse is just a C and an F with a little passing note towards the G.
The chorus gets a little more complicated, but the video does a good job of simplifying it. Most people know this song so well that it practically plays itself!
“The Scientist” beginner piano – Coldplay
Coldplay is another great source of easy piano songs that are recognizable and sound awesome.
This song is very popular with beginning piano students for its easy melody and beautiful chord progression.
The general chord progression for this song is: Dm, Bb, F, Fsus2. Again, the sus2 chord simply means that you take the third of the chord and lower it to the next scale degree.
So, on the F chord, we go from F, A, C to F, G, C. Again, this creates a bit of tension, a bit of crunch, which sounds poppy and pleasing to the ears.
Try playing along with the recorded version of this song! It's a slow song like that, so it's not hard to exercise your fingers.
“Take Me To Church” beginner piano – Hozier
It's a fun song because the recording is very piano heavy, giant piano pop throughout the entire recording.
The chords are not difficult, but the progression is rather long.
The general idea is: Em, Am, Em, Am. There are some variations, going up to G, then D and C.
The chorus is a whole different thing, with big crashing low notes.
Again, this song is fun to play along with, as the piano performance on the track is excellent.
“Someone like you” beginner piano – Adele
Adele is another great source for piano songs, as many of her songs are piano based.
This satisfying tune is in F# minor.
It has an arpeggiated bass line that can be a little difficult to master, but if it's something you want to work on anyway, then you should give it a try.
“Birds” – Imagine Dragons
Like many Imagine Dragons songs, “Birds” relies heavily on production.
But who would have thought it could be transformed into a magnificent piano ballad? Pay attention to those quick notes in the right hand.
This is probably the hardest part of the song.
Also note the movement in the left hand. Part of it is relatively easy but there are also parts that are a bit tricky.
