In the original version of “Behind Blue Eyes”, there is no piano to accompany the melody. However, that doesn't mean piano lovers should give up playing this iconic piece. Instead, I offer you an arrangement that takes advantage of guitar arpeggio patterns, adapted specifically for the piano. By adopting this approach, you will be able to capture the very essence of the song while exploring new sounds.
The essence of guitar arpeggios can be translated to the piano using arpeggiated chords and melodic patterns that faithfully reflect the melancholy atmosphere of “Behind Blue Eyes”. By playing these arpeggios with the right dynamics and expressiveness, you will be able to recreate the feeling of the original version while adding a personal touch to your performance.
For the first verse you have: Em (E minor), G (G), D (D), C (Do), and A (A)
For the choruses you have: C, D, G, C, D, E (E major), Bm (B minor), C, D, Asus2
For verses 2, 3 and the interlude the A (A) is replaced by the Asus2.
To play “Behind Blue Eyes” with ease, it is essential to master the whole notes, half notes, quarter notes and eighth notes. . You will find the prerequisite links to work on these different rhythmic figures. Additionally, the chords you will encounter are often played in arpeggios. I refer you to the course on right hand arpeggios on the piano in order to familiarize yourself with them. The arpeggios help reinforce the soaring atmosphere of the piece and add musicality.
