“Girls Like You” on the drums is a very simple song rhythmically, which makes it a great choice if you're a beginner. In addition, the tempo of the song is relatively slow, which will allow you to adapt more easily and progress at your own pace.
To play this piece, you will need to master your first binary rhythm. This rhythm is one of the foundations of drumming and is used in many musical styles. Make sure you know the stroke sequence for this basic rhythm.
In addition to the first binary rhythm, you will also need to master a bass drum variation. This variation can be practiced through various exercises, but it is important to choose a specific exercise that will allow you to become familiar with the tapping pattern used in “Girls Like You”.
An example exercise would be working on the basic rhythm of the first binary rhythm by incorporating an additional strike of the bass drum at specific times. This can be done by adding a bass drum hit on the “and” of the beat or on the last beat of the measure, for example.
It is recommended to practice these rhythms slowly at first, ensuring that each strike is precise and well coordinated. Use a metronome to help you maintain consistency in your playing.
Feel free to break the song down into smaller sections and practice each section individually before putting them together. This will allow you to better understand the overall structure of the piece and to work on the parts that pose the most difficulty for you.

For the verses of Girls like you battery, it will be a question of following the guitar rhythm with your hi-hat. You will have to master the technique of single strokes and work on your accents and your ghost notes. For the choruses, you will have to work on the triple paradiddle alternating hi-hat/snare drum. The difficulty does not lie in the execution of the triple paradiddle but in the dynamics that make it sound (accents and ghost notes).
Our advice: work on your gestures and movements by playing each part of the piece slowly. Then, go through the different parts of the piece slowly at first, then gradually increase. Also don't hesitate to play it a little faster to be comfortable compared to the original speed.
