The exercise of vocalize Humming (Closed Mouth) is a very useful vocal technique that allows you to work on your voice gently, avoiding unnecessary vocal tension. This technique is particularly used in medicine for speech therapists, in order to repair damaged or misused voices.
The exercise involves vibrating the vocal cords by emitting a continuous sound with closed lips. This technique allows you to feel the resonance of the mask, that is to say the part of the face located above the lips and nose, where sounds resonate particularly well.
It is important not to press the voice and to remain light, taking care not to strain the vocal cords. This technique also allows you to feel the vibration of the mask, allowing a better perception of your voice. Additionally, this exercise can be fun because it allows you to practice imitating the mooing of a cow, which can be a fun way to work on your voice.
Finally, the Humming (Closed Mouth) exercise allows you to connect the voice and breathing, promoting deep and controlled breathing, in harmony with the voice. This exercise is therefore very beneficial for anyone who wants to develop their vocal technique and improve their voice.
During this exercise, it is important to pay attention to not emphasizing your voice and to remain light. It allows you to feel the vibration of the mask, that is to say the area between the eyes and the ears, and to feel the resonance of the voice in this area.
To practice this exercise, imagine that you are yawning, but with your mouth closed. You can also play with the dosage of emphasis, which is the opening of the pharyngeal area at the back of the mouth.
