Welcome to this song lesson Mistral Gagnant by Renaud, where you will learn to play and sing this famous song on the guitar. This course is made up of two versions: the first with easy chords for beginners and the second with barred arpeggios for more experienced guitarists.
We'll start with the version with easy chords and give you tips for singing this song. We'll then cover the arpeggiated version with tips on rhythm placement and fingerings to use to play this song like a pro.
So ready to immerse yourself in the melancholy sweetness, to caress the strings of your guitar and to sing the words of Mistral Gagnant in a voice full of emotion?
In this course, you will learn an adaptation of the famous song “Mistral Gagnant” by Renaud on the guitar and singing at the same time. Pay attention to the time signature changes that occur throughout the song, especially between single measures in 4/4, 3/4, and 2/4.
To simplify and accelerate the tempo of the song, we adapted this version so that it is played in binary time (single measures), rather than in ternary time (measures composed in 6/8 or 12/8). This will allow you to better follow the rhythm and maintain fluidity in the guitar accompaniment. Ready to play Mistral Gagnant on guitar like a pro?
Regarding the vocal range, it is important to note that the chest voice should be used primarily throughout the song, while the head voice is reserved for the introductory “um…”. When you sing, try as much as possible to sing lightly and add breath to your voice, this will give a more airy feeling to your performance.
Keep some dynamism on certain consonants to play with the intention of the song, for example, by emphasizing consonants in words like “bouffant” or “raler”. This will give a personal and expressive touch to your interpretation.
For female vocals, you can sing an octave above the original key of the song to better suit your vocal range. This will give a higher, softer tone to your voice.
When it comes to rhythmic placement, you can allow yourself some freedom in the way you sing. However, be sure to finish the last word of each phrase with the corresponding chord to maintain the rhythmic structure of the song.
If you want to learn how to play Guitar Chords Mistral Gagnant, it is important to note that a capo must be used in fret 2. Indications regarding the number of beats for each chord are usually given in the text of the song itself. However, for time signature changes, it is advisable to refer to the score.
Once you have mastered this simple version of Guitar Chords from Mistral Gagnant, you can try the arpeggiated version of the arpeggio guitar score by Mistral Gagnant. This version will allow you to play the song with more complex arpeggios and a richer harmonic structure, which will give a more complete dimension to your guitar accompaniment.

Here is the second version of Mistral gagnant by Renaud on Vocals and Guitar with here the Arpeggios Guitar version.
The sheet music provided uses arpeggiated chords, which means you'll have to play the notes of each chord one after the other rather than playing them at the same time. For this reason, it is important to know the basic chords well before you start playing the accompaniment of the song.
When playing the accompaniment, make sure you keep the rhythm and time throughout the song. To do this, you can refer to the score and the rhythm indications indicated there.
The arpeggio guitar accompaniment of winner Mistral is played only with finger triplets, which means you have to use your thumb, index finger, middle finger and ring finger while playing three notes per beat. The fingers to be played are indicated on the pdf sheet music, with P for thumb, I for index finger, M for middle finger and A for ring finger.
Be careful, because although most chords allow you to keep the fingers of the right hand together, this is not always the case. For certain arpeggiated chords, like E minor, F sharp or G, you will have to detach your thumb from the other three fingers.
I advise you to work slowly and precisely to master the rhythm and technique of finger triplets. Once you have mastered the accompaniment with the arpeggiated chords, you can try the version with capo in box 2 presented previously.
If you encounter difficulties with the chords and barre notes of the original version of “Mistral Gagner”, do not hesitate to turn to the easy guitar score with capo in fret 2. This version uses the same fingerings and the same rhythm, but is suitable for beginners.
However, if you want to progress on guitar, I advise you to work on the original version in order to familiarize yourself with barre and more complex chords. Take your time and don't hesitate to play slowly to assimilate the movements of the left hand and the triplets with the fingers of the right hand.
For time signature changes, refer to the guitar score of “Mistral gagnant” presented previously. It contains all the information necessary to play the song with precision and musicality. Don't forget to work on the end of each sentence to ensure perfect agreement.
